Enquire NowCentral Atolls Surfing
Get ready to experience a surf trip of a lifetime and surf some of the best waves the Maldives has on offer. From May through to September, Maavahi Surf Charters offers limited sailings through the Central Atolls in search for perfect and uncrowded waves. The Centrals, less frequented than the Northern Malé Atolls, has become known for the exquisite tropical scenery and minimal crowds, with a variety of reef breaks to suit most surf abilities.
During your sailing, you’ll have the chance to discover more than 20 surf breaks. The Meemu, Thaa, Dhaalu and Laamu Atolls all pick up consistent swell and favourable offshore winds during the peak season. Some of the best waves in the region include Muli, Inside Mikados, Finnimas, Machines and Ying Yangs.
MALIKS
In the Thaa Atoll, off Hirilandhoo Island, Maliks is a left-hand reef break that, given the right conditions, offers up long, satisfying barrels. While this wave isn’t always performing at its peak, if you stumble upon Maliks during a south/south-west swell and south-east/east wind, you won’t be disappointed.
FINNIMAS
Finnimas isn’t for the faint of heart, as it breaks over some pretty shallow reef, however this left-hander is high up on the ‘to surf’ list for many visitors to the Central Atolls. While not the biggest wave in the Maldives, it’s definitely one not to miss given the right conditions.
INSIDE MIKADOS
The picture perfect Inside Mikados is a right-hand reef break just east of Outside Mikados. Hollow at low tide and user friendly on high tide, Inside Mikados offers up peeling down the line rides with short barrel sections.
YING YANG
In the south of Laamu Atoll, Ying Yang is a right hander that is a frequent stop for Maavahi Surf Charters. Ying Yang combines a mellow down the line ride with a fast inside barrel section where surfers can get some serious tube riding time if they can push through the more challenging sections.
MULI
A highlight of the Meemu Atoll, Muli is a right-hander with barrel sections that offer up some memorable rides for visitors to the Central Atolls. Not a wave to be missed in the right conditions, Muli works best in a south-east swell and west/south-west winds.
MACHINES
As mechanical as it sounds, Machines is the best right-hander in this region. Surfing Machines requires a bit of stamina, but the grinding barrel sections make it worthwhile. Machines lacks a channel, so you’ll need to be paddle fit, and be sure to have your wits about you when it’s time to get out of the impact zone.
Surf Guiding & Photography
On a surf charter it is essential to have an experienced surf guide with a solid knowledge base of local swells, tides and winds, who may even introduce you to a few secret spots! On board Maavahi, you’ll get to know the most experienced surf guides you will ever meet, many of whom grew up surfing the local islands and reef breaks of the Central Atolls.
Maavahi’s surf guides are constantly checking surf conditions, collaborating with other skippers and surf guides in the area to find fun and uncrowded waves for guests, ensuring all levels and preferences are catered for. Upon request, World Surfaris can arrange for a surf photographer to join your charter at an additional cost.
Food & Drinks
After surfing or exploring the Central Atolls all day, you’ll be ready for a delicious feast cooked by your own private chef.
On board Maavahi Surf Charters, the professional chef prepares three delicious meals a day, combining traditional Maldivian and international cuisines. As a guest on board Maavahi you can enjoy your meals in the spacious dining room, or take in 360-degree views on one of the two upper decks. Snacks, tea and coffee are also available throughout the day and night.
The Maavahi crew are committed to the environment and sustainable surfing, and Maavahi produces its own fresh filtered water on board daily. Each guest is allocated up to 250 litres of fresh water per day.
