Enquire NowSurfing
Koimala operates seasonal surf charters through both the Malé Atolls and the Central Atolls, giving guests access to a diverse range of world-class reef breaks throughout the Maldives. Daily surf plans are shaped around swell, wind, and tides, allowing the crew to position the boat where conditions are best. From the playful rights and lefts of the Malé Atolls to the quieter reefs further south, every day is built around maximising time in the water and finding quality waves.
Every Koimala charter is accompanied by experienced World Surfaris-appointed surf guides, who work closely with the captain and local crew to select the best waves for the day’s conditions and the group’s ability. A dedicated surf dinghy handles all transfers to and from the lineup, providing quick and efficient access to nearby breaks while keeping the main vessel comfortably anchored. Professional surf photography can also be arranged on request, giving guests the opportunity to capture the highlights of their Maldives surf adventure.
Malé Atolls
Jailbreaks
Previously off-limits, Jailbreaks is a long right-hander with three sections, including a mid-barrel section. When it’s lining up right, you can expect a super-fun 300m ride!
Ninjas
Travelling 20 minutes north you’ll find this fun right-hander which breaks off Kani Resort. It’s great for beginners to intermediate surfers. With an easier take-off, on smaller days, Ninjas is good for longboarders or cruising on a fish, and on bigger swells it’s lots of fun on a shortboard.
Cokes (Colas)
Cokes is one of the most well-known waves in the region. It’s a hollow right-hander which breaks at between 3 to 10 ft.
Chickens
On the other side of Cokes, Chickens is the fastest left-hander in the North Malé Atoll. It’s a swell magnet and can handle swell from 3 to over 10 ft, with rides up to 500m long.
Sultans
Sultans is one of the most consistent and user-friendly right-handers in the world. With long walls and barrel sections, Sultans has plenty of take-off spots, so crowds shouldn’t be a problem.
Honekys
Located off Thanburudhoo Island, Honkeys is a super-fun left-hander with a mellow take-off, with a 90-degree bend offering a whackable wall. It’s fun, but not always consistent.
Quarters
Quarters is a small, quick right-hander that works well in bigger swells. In the right conditions, surfers can enjoy punchy barrels in the inside section.
Natives (Foxys)
Breaking over shallow reef, Natives is a hollow right-hander suited to more experienced surfers. In bigger swells Natives serves up long, fast barrels.
Tucky Joes’
Tucky Joes’ left works in a big south east swell and delivers solid barrels and fun rides. Riptides is also super-fun in bigger conditions.
Riptides
When the swell is bigger, Riptides is a fast right-hander that breaks for more than 150 metres, with the occasional barrel section. It’s a great wave for surfers of all levels.
Kates
Kates is a fun, short left-hander with a steep take-off that works best in north-west and northerly winds and is softer on a higher tide.
Twin Peaks
With a consistent right as well as a left-hander, Twin Peaks is a swell magnet and one of the more relaxed waves in the region.
Central Atolls
Maliks
In the Thaa Atoll, off Hirilandhoo Island, Maliks is a left-hand reef break that, given the right conditions, offers up long, satisfying barrels. While this wave isn’t always performing at its peak, if you stumble upon Maliks during a south/south-west swell and south-east/east wind, you won’t be disappointed.
Finnimas
Finnimas isn’t for the faint of heart, as it breaks over some pretty shallow reef, however this left-hander is high up on the ‘to surf’ list for many visitors to the Central Atolls. While not the biggest wave in the Maldives, it’s definitely one not to miss given the right conditions.
Inside Mikados
The picture perfect Inside Mikados is a right-hand reef break just east of Outside Mikados. Hollow at low tide and user friendly on high tide, Inside Mikados offers up peeling down the line rides with short barrel sections.
Ying Yang
In the south of Laamu Atoll, Ying Yang is a right hander that is a frequent stop for Ocean Sapphire. Ying Yang combines a mellow down the line ride with a fast inside barrel section where surfers can get some serious tube riding time if they can push through the more challenging sections.
Muli
A highlight of the Meemu Atoll, Muli is a right-hander with barrel sections that offer up some memorable rides for visitors to the Central Atolls. Not a wave to be missed in the right conditions, Muli works best in a south-east swell and west/south-west winds.
Machines
As mechanical as it sounds, Machines is the best right-hander in this region. Surfing Machines requires a bit of stamina, but the grinding barrel sections make it worthwhile. Machines lacks a channel, so you’ll need to be paddle fit, and be sure to have your wits about you when it’s time to get out of the impact zone.
Food & Drinks
Meals onboard Koimala are fresh, wholesome, and designed to keep guests fuelled for long days in the surf. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are prepared daily by the onboard chef, with a buffet-style selection of Maldivian and international dishes. Fresh seafood regularly features alongside grilled meats, curries, rice, tropical fruit, salads, and local favourites, providing plenty of variety throughout the trip.
Meals are served in the communal dining area, creating a relaxed setting where guests can catch up after a day of surfing. Tea, coffee, drinking water, and refreshments are available throughout the charter, while flexible meal times fit around the day’s surf schedule rather than fixed dining hours. Most dietary requirements can be catered for with advance notice, ensuring everyone is well fed and ready for the next session.
