HT’s Mentawai Surf Resort, also known as Hollow Tree’s, is located directly in front of Lance’s Right – one of the most consistent and powerful right-hand barrels in the Mentawai Islands. This wave draws experienced surfers from around the world for its speed, hollow sections, and mechanical perfection. Guests at HT’s enjoy paddle-out access to the break, plus surf transfers to nearby spots like Lance’s Left, Bintangs, Cobras, and Monkeys. Conditions suit intermediates through to advanced surfers, with a nearby beach break also available for beginners or slower days.

Surfing The Playgrounds Area
HTs Mentawai Surf Resort places surfers at the doorstep of one of the most iconic waves in the world – Lance’s Right (HTs). With over ten high-quality breaks accessible within a short boat or motorbike ride, surfers of all levels can enjoy consistent, uncrowded sessions in crystal-clear tropical waters. In addition to Hollow Tree’s, nearby waves like Lance’s Left, Cobras, Bintangs and The Point offer a range of options depending on swell direction and skill level. Beginners are also well catered for, with access to gentler breaks like Mini HTs and a nearby sand-bottom beach break just minutes away.

Wave Breakdown
Lance’s Right (HTs)
This famed wave is positioned directly in front of HT’s Surf Resort. On it’s good days Lances Right is one of the best waves in Indonesia with flawless barrelling rights. To work best, the wave likes a confusing combination of W swell and W winds. When it turns on, it’s a mesmerising 8-second barrel from the office all the way to the channel.
Lance’s Left
A fun, super consistent left, straight out the front of Kingfisher Surf Resort where guests can watch perfection from the comfort of the pool bar or private bungalow. Lances Left has a good barrel section and enough space to link together some turns before kicking out.
Cobras
You’ll find Cobras at the top section of the Lances Left reef. This wave is a cylindrical barrelling left, shallow and often challenging but sometimes a better barrel than at Lances. This spot works best on S swells.
Mini HT’s
A small peak going right or left. This reef break is just a short walk from the resort, suiting either beginners or longboard fun rider.
Shipwrecks
A perfect barreling right, not surfed by many. Mid to high tide only and beware on the inside section. A nice getaway when HT’s gets too crowded!
The Point
A long fun right hander, suitable for all levels, with hollow and flat sections. Just a few hundred meters from HT’s.
7-Palms
Shifty lefts off random peaks. This spot, rarely crowded, picks up plenty of swell but can be hard to surf.
Bintangs
This wave is a short, powerful right-hand barrel that perks up quickly over a shallow section of reef. Amazing barrel on it’s day but a very short ride. Bintangs is visible from Kingfisher Surf Resort.
Monkeys
Left: A playful, usually uncrowded left that picks up plenty of swell. Monkeys is one of many waves close by to Kingfisher Surf Resort.
Bintang Beachie
This wave is located on a long stretch of beach that runs from Kingfisher Surf Resort all the way to Bintangs. On small, short period swells this beachie can offer some playful peaks, and every now and then turns out to be something special.
The Bombie
A shallow section of reef in Katiet Bay, occasionally good on a longboard and an amazing wave for foiling.
